    Lucy was featured alongside the team at Hand & Lock for Grazia’s Big Fashion Issue in February 2024. The team at Hand & Lock were featured in the ‘Fashion’s Unsung Heroes’ edit.

    For 250 years, the historic embroidery specialists at Hand & Lock have been purveyors for the Royal Family and armed forces, top fashion houses and Savile Row tailors. Production director Alice Murrell leads the all-female team based in its London atelier, which counts Burberry, Dior and Erdem among its regular clients’

    From February 2022 to December 2025, Lucy worked as the Head of Education at Hand & Lock. Her role encompasses every aspect of the Hand & Lock School for Embroidery. Lucy is incredibly passionate about sharing her natural talent with the public through online and in person Zoom courses.

    ‘The Preciousness of Life’ is a meditation on the beauty and serenity of nature married with a sense of nostalgia and family in a series of hand embroidered sculptural objects. Inspired by Lucy Martin’s garden at her family home, this personal project reflects the aspects of her life she holds most dear through the art of bespoke hand embroidery. This particular body of work comprises of a series of glass terrariums, within which sit a series of beautiful hand embroidered florals.

    NHS Embroidery Challenge

    The University for the Creative Arts (UCA) has joined forces with a hand embroidery degree student to mobilise people to use their skills and imagination to support the NHS battling Covid-19.

    Lucy Martin, a hand embroidery degree pupil at the Royal School of Needlework, has created a heart template with the NHS logo inside, and is working with the Rochester university to encourage people of any level of embroidery and age to have a go at stitching their own heart-shaped NHS design, and to hang the completed work in their window to share their support.

    British couturier, Catherine Walker & Co, has reunited for the second year running with the Royal School of Needlework. Two second year BA (Hons) Hand Embroidery Degree students - Alice Long and Lucy Martin - were given the opportunity to experience the inner workings of the iconic couturier and utilise their hand embroidery skills under the guidance of Head of Design Said Cyrus and his team of 30 artisans – some of whom have been with the House for over twenty years.

    To celebrate the opening of Ascot today, the UCA’s Royal School of Needlework (RSN) has collaborated with British couturier Catherine Walker & Co to produce an intricately embellished summer suit and hat.

    In the Spring of 2023, Lucy exhibited her work and spent a beautiful week demonstrating bespoke hand embroidery with Charlotte Gaunt. The two artists combined bespoke print design, Flocking & Foiling and embellishment to create a truly unique surface texture for interiors clients.
