Exhibitions & Awards

Lucy has had the honour of exhibiting her work at a number of high profile exhibitions across the UK including the Royal School of Needlework Crown to Catwalk Exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum, The Worshipful Company of Broderers Exhibition at the Bankside Gallery, The Hand & Lock Embroidered Arts Exhibition 2021 & 2023, The Sunbury Gallery Embroidery Exhibition and the Worshipful Company of Girdlers Exhibition amongst others. She has subsequently received a number of International Embroidery Awards including the Royal School of Needlework Award for Innovation and Technical Excellence in Hand Embroidery, The Worshipful Company of Broderers Award for Hand Embroidery Excellence and The Worshipful Company of Broderers Award for Stumpwork Embroidery.

Fashion & Bridal

Lucy’s most recent project involved her assisting in the creation of a hat for Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour. The look was designed by Peter Dundas and the embroidery was created through Hand & Lock. Immediately after graduating, Lucy began working for the Womenswear and Menswear departments at Alexander McQueen. She has also worked for the Womenswear Department at Sabina Bilenko producing bespoke couture garments and luxury installations. In 2022, she assisted in the hand finishing of a bespoke digitally embroidered jacket for Brian May for Queen’s performance at the Platinum Jubilee Party, at Buckingham Palace. In February 2020 Lucy began work at the private couturier Catherine Walker where she worked as part of a two-person team to produce the surface embellishment for the front panels of their Business and Occasion suit ‘Cora’ in their SS20 collection. She worked on the SS20 E. Tautz menswear collection after a workshop with textile artist Celia Pym and Savile Row tailor Patrick Grant. She worked as a bespoke Embroiderer for Ralph and Russo in August and September 2019 working on bridal, collection and RTW pieces. She also worked on the Jasper Conran Couture SS20 collection.​ The fashion pieces Lucy has created have been for clients including Naomi Campbell, Penelope Cruz, Viscountess Emma Weymouth, and Kylie Jenner amongst many others. Lucy has also done a number of hand embroidery events hand monogramming garments, most recently for Sirplus, a sustainable menswear brand based in London. Lucy has also been involved in creating hand embroidered accessories for the Vampire’s Wife.

Ceremonial

Lucy has recently produced a number of beautiful embroideries for the Coronation of King Charles III. She was invited to Kensington Palace on the eve of the Coronation to help to embroider the Garter Star on the Coronation robes of the Duchess of Gloucester. Lucy was also involved in producing the embroidery for Garter King of Arms Royal Coatee David White as well as being involved in creating the Badge of the Order of the Garter. Lucy has also produced work for a number of other ceremonial events including the funerals of Their Late Majesty’s Prince Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh and HM Queen Elizabeth II. Lucy assisted with the Goldwork on the ceremonial jacket for the Duke of Norfolk worn at multiple ceremonial events including the Coronation of King Charles III.

Installations

Exploring hand embroidery on a larger scale has enabled Lucy to produce a number of beautiful Installations around the world. Lucy’s most recent installation has been a number of beautifully embroidered outdoor flags for Burberry created by Hand & Lock. A series of stunning outdoor and indoor flags were produced for their flagship Regent Street and Sloane Square stores as well as a number of international locations including their NYC Flagship store. Lucy also helped to create the hand embroidered curtains hung in the windows of Burberry’s Regent Street Store created to coincide with the Coronation of King Charles III. In March 2022 after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Lucy was involved with the launch of ‘Ariadne’s Thread’, a project designed to create a safe and united space for Ukrainian women taking a stand against the Russian Occupation with a needle and thread. Another stunning installation took place in collaboration with Flirty Flowers in an installation for Marshall Wace for Chelsea in Bloom, 2021. She hand stitched dried flowers onto hessian blankets for two life-sized antique wooden elephants which won an RHS Silver Award. The motifs were inspired by patterns from India to fit the theme of ‘Extraordinary Voyages’. In January 2020, her work was part of an exhibition called ‘Out of the Blue’ in the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle. She stitched a Victorian Chemise with a testimony from an epilepsy sufferer and spoke on BBC Radio Sounds to promote the project. In February 2023, Lucy assisted with Susan Aldworth’s newest exhibition titled ‘Exile: sono oriunda’ and her work has been exhibited as part of this exhibition in The Hub, Sleaford. In 2017, she worked alongside Jennifer Collier, a local fine art textile practitioner to design and create paper Christmas decorations for National Trust property Packwood House.

Interiors

Lucy has produced a number of bespoke interiors pieces. Her most recent interiors work was a bespoke piece created for Burghley House. This piece was a collaboration between Lucy & Rediscovered By Studio combining print and bespoke embroidery used to reupholster a Chippendale Chair.  Lucy works closely with Charlotte at Rediscovered By to produce bespoke pieces for private clients and they have exhibited together at Chelsea Harbour Design Centre for Design Week 2023 & 2024. In 2020 Lucy worked on a commission for the Ashburnian Society where she produced a ceremonial tablecloth using traditional Goldwork embroidery techniques. She has also worked on a collaboration between Hand and Lock and Bentley to hand stitch the interior for a concept car.

Restorations

Lucy's largest restoration piece was a piece she worked in 2018 which was the restoration of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra Garter Banners. Lucy was honoured to work on this piece and the finished piece now hangs in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Tutoring & Conferences


Lucy currently works as the Head of Education at Hand & Lock. In her time in the role, she already has grown the school’s students considerably, who now total over 1,600.

Most significantly, Lucy has also led Hand & Lock to partner with a number of notable institutions to teach courses in inspiring environments, including the Sunbury Gallery and the National Army Museum.

She has delivered a talks to a number of private clients as a brand ambassador for Hand & Lock. Lucy was a keynote speaker at the international Embroidery in Isolation: Textiles from Home conference which was hosted by the university of Wisconsin-Madison.

Costume for Stage & Screen

Lucy has had the pleasure of working on a number of costume projects. Whilst working at Hand & Lock, Lucy worked on a beautiful piece for the stage production of “An Inspector Calls”. Having previously been commission to create the piece for original stage production, Hand & Lock produced a second garment for the new production. Completed in five weeks, the technique of tambour beading with a variety of beads, paillettes and bugle beads was applied to create a beautiful floral pattern making this garment a show stopper.

Lucy also works closely with bespoke costume designer Jo Irvine, creating beautiful commissions for various clients. Her most recent project was a Goldwork ‘Wonka’ logo celebrating the launch of the ‘Wonka’ movie release in 2024 with a costume for World Book Day.

In 2022, Lucy worked with Richard Cooke creating the braid for the Principal costume worn in episode 1 of ‘The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin’.
